The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Primary and Secondary, Dr Donatus Illang has said that the decision of the state government to shut down several unapproved and unregistered schools across the 13 local government areas of the state is not targeted at any individual nor is it a witch-hunt against anyone.
While briefing journalists on the state government’s new policies on education, Dr Illang maintained that there won’t be any sacred cows during the implementation of the policies, as those tasked with the responsibility of closing down the schools have been mandated to carry out the task without fear or favour.
He maintained that the state government cannot continue to allow few individuals jeopardize the educational policies and programs of the current administration adding that pupils and students cannot continue to learn under a non-conducive environment.
The commissioner urged parents to take their children and wards to only approved and registered schools pointing out that any school shut down will not be opened until all the necessary criteria are met.
