The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has refuted claims that its officers were among those killed in the recent attack on border facilities and contractors in Kangiwa Border, in Kangiwa local government area of Kebbi State.

In a statement issued by the Immigration spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, on Sunday, the Service confirmed that the attack occurred on Friday, January 10, 2025, around 1920 hours, resulting in the death of four individuals— a local watchman and three contractors.

The statement explained that though no Immigration officer was harmed in the attack, the Service, however, recorded significant damage to its border facilities.

NIS expressed its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and emphasised that it was working closely with other security agencies to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.

NIS reaffirmed its commitment to its core mission of ensuring border security and supporting national security efforts.

The statement read; “The Service regrets to announce a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on Border facilities and contractors on site, at the Kangiwa Border in Kangiwa LGA of Kebbi State at about 19:20 hours on Friday 10, January 2025.

“The attack led to the death of four persons; a local watchman and three contractors. No Immigration officer was killed during the attack. However, the Service recorded substantial damages on its border facilities.”

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased. The Service is actively working alongside other sister security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts and bring them to justice,” it added.
