The Nongov community in Makurdi has declared support for a former National Coordinator in the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO), Dr. Iorwakwagh Apera, to represent Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The endorsement was announced during a meeting held at the residence of Chief Ayôôsu Bem in Makurdi, where stakeholders from the four Nongov clans Saghev, Nzorov, Kaambe and Abinsi converged.

Speaking at the meeting, President of the Nongov Community, Hon. Benjamin Iwan, urged members to remain united and embrace inclusive politics, warning against divisions that could weaken their collective interest.

He expressed confidence in Apera’s candidature, describing it as an opportunity to foster unity among the Nongov people.

In his remarks, Apera pledged to provide effective representation if elected in the 2027 general elections, with a focus on youth and women empowerment, improved security, and infrastructural development.

He also assured constituents of what he described as practical solutions to challenges facing the constituency.
Several speakers, including community leaders and elders from the various clans, commended Apera for joining the race, describing his decision as timely.

They noted that despite being a significant bloc within the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, the Nongov community has yet to produce a representative at the House of Representatives.

Apera, a former National Coordinator of the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office under the Presidency, Office of the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, managed Federal Government social protection programmes and led the development of the National Social Register for the poor and vulnerable.
