North-West Govs Eye Global Investment At UNGA

The seven states of the Northwest are set to take their investment opportunities to the global stage as Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, leads his counterparts to a high-level side event at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The event, scheduled for Monday, September 21, will provide the governors with an opportunity to present the region’s common development agenda to international development partners, investors, financial institutions and private-sector leaders.

The side event, themed “From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts,” will feature the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030, a regional blueprint developed to promote peace, security, resilience and economic development across the seven states.

According to a statement by Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the Northwest Governors’ Forum has, in less than two years, moved from building consensus around shared challenges to adopting a common framework for addressing them.

The process, the statement said, has received support from the United Nations system, particularly the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with sustained engagement from the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed.

The governor is expected to use the engagement to highlight the Northwest’s investment potential in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, technology, mining and human capital development, while seeking stronger partnerships and financing for implementation of the regional framework.

The initiative will be presented under the regional message “Seven States. One Ambition,” reflecting the governors’ effort to promote a coordinated approach to peace, development and investment across the region.
