Deputy Governor of Kebbi State Umar Abubakar Tafida said the northern governors at the just-concluded security summit in Katsina State strategised to ensure that farmers in the region return to the farm to address hunger in the region.
Abubakar stated this yesterday in his goodwill message at the pre-convocation lecture of the 14th joint convocation of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi.
He said that the seven northern state governors were in Katsina last week, where he represented Governor Nasir Idris and held a crucial meeting on how best to tackle insecurity, improve the economy and other challenges facing the North West zone.
He said the topic, “Contemporary Challenges of the Nigerian Economy: The Role of Human Capital Development” could not have been better than now when the country is trying to free itself from the shackles of economic doldrums.
According to him, from its humble beginnings in 1976 as the former Sokoto State College of Technology, Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic has remained one of Nigeria’s most respected citadels of knowledge, known for its high quality and academic standards not only in Nigeria but worldwide.
The vice chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri, presented the Pre-Convocation Lecture on “The Contemporary Challenges of the Nigeria Economy: The Role of Human Capital Development.” He identified unemployment, poverty, insecurity, and infrastructure deficit as the major challenges affecting the Nigerian economy.
