Northern-based non-governmental organisations (NGO), TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation, in Collaboration with Tukur &Tukur Foundation (TTF), have offered free medical services to over 800 residents of Aguleri in the Anambra East local government of Anambra State.
During a 3-day medical outreach in Aguleri, the foundation distributed over 120 medicated eyeglasses.
The chairman of TTF, Colonel Haruna Idris Zaria (rtd), noted during the exercise at Aguleri that the aim was to uplift the lives of vulnerable, elderly, and underprivileged members of society.
He noted that the foundation also aimed to uplift the lives of persons with disabilities through medical outreach, assistive devices, free eye screening and cataract surgery, and educational materials.
Colonel Zaria further explained that TTF carries out its humanitarian interventions all over Nigeria whenever the need arises as part of its activities to touch lives.
“TTF carries out free ‘Eye Screening and Cataract Surgery’. In the eye screening exercise, the eyes are properly screened, minor eye problems are treated with drugs, eye drops/ointments are issued free, and cataract surgery is also conducted for free.
“TTF also gives out assistive devices that assist those with physical disabilities in carrying out their daily activities, for example, wheelchairs and crutches.”
“We came all the way from the North to offer humanitarian activities to the people of Aguleri. One of us, the former chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai, was given a traditional title in Aguleri”.
The CEO of Immaculate Heart Multispecialty Hospital, Aguleri, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Chinedu Onuorah, commended TTF for their kind gesture, adding that the exercise strengthened the north and Southeastern relationship.
He said, “Every year, they come to offer free medical services to the people of Aguleri. This year is very special because they added more specialists and more drugs. A lot of people were tested and treated.”
“Their activities also show that they are gospel preachers in disguise; they are fulfilling the words of Jesus that they may have life. They are giving their own portion of life to the people”.
One of the beneficiaries, a 17-year-old Chioma Anodebe, who was treated and received eyeglasses, thanked the foundation for bringing medical services to her community.
The services provided include eye screening, ear, nose, and throat treatment, and the provision of drugs worth millions of naira.
