National Population Commission (NPC) is to recruit about two million personnel for the April 2023 population and housing census.
Chairman of the commission, Nasir Isa Kwarra, stated this yesterday during the launch of an online application portal for prospective applicants ahead of the exercise.
Speaking about the e-recruitment of ad-hoc staff, the census manager, Dr Inuwa Jalingo, promised a quality-assured and diversified workforce from across the 774 LGAs of the country.
According to him, the commission projects to receive about 25 million applications from individuals who must have national identification numbers (NIN), valid gmail accounts, phone numbers, basic computer skills, among others.
Those to be engaged include training centre administrators, data quality managers/assistants, supervisors and enumerators.
Chairman of the 2023 Census Committee and federal commissioner for Rivers State, Dr Ipalibo McDonald, said the trial census held earlier this year was a huge success, promising that nobody would be left behind during the census next year
.
The NPC said those seeking to be engaged must see their recruitment as a call to national service and not a permanent job but promised that they would be handsomely rewarded.
Director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari, said the census requires expansive mobilisation because of the large population and urged the media to responsibly report the 2023 elections to ensure that the nation exists to count after the polls.
