Ikorodu City FC, the current table-toppers in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), have confidently dismissed concerns that the departure of several key players will adversely impact their performance this season.

The club’s director, Olawale Quadri, speaking yesterday in Lagos, emphasised the robust structure in place, designed to seamlessly integrate new talent.

The “Oga Boys” have seen a number of players leave in pursuit of opportunities abroad, including defenders Adewale Adebayo and Austin Harrison, and striker Stephen Chinonso Uzoma, with Shola Adelani being the latest to move on.

Quadri stated, “For the overall performance of the team, I don’t really think it will have any effect. About five players have left and maybe a sixth is about to leave. The team is still going strong and we are still winning games. So, I doubt that it will affect the team.” He highlighted the club’s effective framework, which ensures a continuous supply of talent to fill any vacancies.

He further elaborated, “By some standards, we did very well last season, and even before this season, some players had left yet, the team is still where it is. So, I don’t think it will affect the team.”

Quadri affirmed Ikorodu City FC’s ambition to “continue to evolve and send shockwaves across Nigerian football.” He urged fans to “watch out for us because we are not done yet; we still have lots of good football to offer as a club.” He attributed this resilience to “building a strong structure around the team, supported by a good scouting network across Nigeria.”

The director also pointed to the club’s academy as a vital source of talent, not only for Ikorodu City FC but also for other teams in Lagos. He added, “We are also mindful of the business side of football, and are ready to do business; all these factors will help us. That is what we are doing, maintaining a good scouting network and strong relationships with teams in Lagos and beyond.”

Ikorodu City FC currently leads the NPFL with 44 points, following their recent 1-0 victory over former champions Enyimba. Their impressive record stands at 12 wins, eight draws, and six losses.
