Nasarawa United FC, affectionately known as “the Solid Miners,” secured a much-needed 1-0 home win against Bendel Insurance of Benin City on Matchday 27 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign.
The victory marks a return to form for the club after recent setbacks.
The decisive goal came in the 40th minute of the first half, courtesy of John Joshua. While a late penalty opportunity, created by substitute Suleiman Dauda, was missed by Ngei Oluka-Efor, Nasarawa United held on to claim all three points.
This result sees the Solid Miners climb to third in the league table with 44 points, just one point behind leaders Ikorodu City of Lagos, who drew 1-1 at home to Bayelsa United. They are level on points with Rangers International of Enugu.
A notable presence at the Lafia City Stadium included members of the State Executive Council, such as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, and his Justice Ministry counterpart, Barr. Isaac Danladi. Club Chairman, Solomon Babanjah, expressed that their attendance provided a significant morale boost for the team.
Looking ahead, Nasarawa United face a challenging away fixture against former league champions Rangers International FC in Enugu on Sunday, 1st March 2026, for Matchday 28. They will then return home to host Ikorodu City FC the following week.
In a post-match interview, Chairman Solomon Babanjah stated: “It’s a thing of joy to get the maximum points today. Prior to today, we had lost two games this second stanza of the league which affected the team’s spirit, but I’m glad we are recovering gradually.”
He further commended young debutant Suleiman Dauda, highlighting his contribution to the team. Regarding the missed penalty, Babanjah acknowledged it as part of the game and confirmed the team is working on establishing a new primary penalty taker. He concluded by affirming the team’s commitment to finishing the season strongly for their supporters.
