The Kano State Sharia Commission has warned that it will no longer tolerate the establishment of Jumu’ah (Friday) mosques without its official approval, saying anyone who violates the law will face appropriate sanctions.

The Commission’s Second Commissioner, Sheikh Ali Danabba, issued the warning while addressing journalists in Kano, stressing that the state has laid down clear legal procedures for the establishment of Friday mosques.

According to him, any individual, community or religious organization intending to establish a Jumu’ah mosque must first obtain approval from the Kano State Sharia Commission and fulfill all prescribed legal and administrative requirements before commencing operations.

Sheikh Danabba said the Commission would not recognize or endorse any Friday mosque established outside the approved legal framework, warning that such actions undermine the state’s regulatory system for places of worship.

“The law clearly requires anyone wishing to establish a Jumu’ah mosque to seek and obtain approval from the Kano State Sharia Commission and meet all the stipulated conditions,” he said.

He called on individuals, communities and Islamic organizations to comply with the state’s laws governing places of worship, noting that adherence to the regulations would promote proper coordination of religious activities and sustain peaceful coexistence across Kano State.
