The National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested Jeremiah Stephen, 24. Stephen specialises in making fake money transfers upon purchasing goods to unsuspected victims or withdrawing from POS machines.
The suspect, arrested in the Michika local government area of the state, was alleged to have swindled N500,000.00 from customers.
During an interrogation by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC State Command DSC Amidu Nyako, the suspect confessed to swindling people amounting to Five hundred thousand naira (N500,000.00) in Michika and Yola metropolis.
According to the suspect, he was forced into the crime due to his medical condition and pledged not to return to the act again and advised those who are nursing to be involved in the act to desist as cheating does not pay.
Reacting, PRO NSCDC State Command, DSC Amidu Nyako, while commending the efforts of the Michika Divisional Officer of the Corps, DSC Hajara Usman, for apprehending the suspect, called on businessmen and POS operators to cross-check any transfer of money into their account before releasing goods and make any customer payment.
He said the State Commandant of the Corps, Ibrahim Mainasara, has directed a thorough investigation to prosecute the suspect.
