Following the recent massacre in Benue State, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered full deployment of covert operatives, special forces and tactical units across the state to track down and apprehend those behind the attacks.
Dr. Audi issued the directive during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the affected areas, accompanied by other top security chiefs. He described the situation as tragic and unacceptable, calling for urgent and strategic action to restore peace.
“These killings must stop. We must be strategic, decisive and resilient in our approach to restoring peace and order. All hands must be on deck,” he stated.
He emphasised the need for maximum deployment of the NSCDC’s special forces, counter-terrorism units and intelligence teams for both covert and overt operations. He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s directive to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Audi urged other security agencies and community stakeholders to work together to launch a renewed onslaught against the attackers.
He further assured that the NSCDC high command would boost tactical support and logistics for the Benue State Command to enhance its operational strength. In addition, he promised to partner closely with the military, DSS, Police, local security outfits and other critical stakeholders to gather credible intelligence that would lead to arrests.
Dr. Audi also expressed appreciation to Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for his ongoing support to the state command. He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) and ensuring the safety of citizens across the state.
The NSCDC boss condemned the brutal killing of innocent civilians, particularly unarmed women and children, stressing that there could be no justification for such senseless violence.
“Just as Mr. President has directed, the perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to book, and we need to be on top of our game to make this happen,” the CG stated.
