NSCDC Probes Alleged Killing Of Rivers’ Resident By Personnel

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers State, has commenced and investigation into the alleged killing of a resident of the state, by one of its personnel.
NSCDC, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by it’s spokesperson, Ihemnacho Umeado, extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
The statement said the state commandant, Dr. Dennis Reuben, has also calles for calm and encouraged the public to refrain from violent protest or actions that could escalate tensions.
The statement reads in part: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased victim following the tragic incident involving an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
“On Wednesday 15 July, 2026, an unfortunate event occurred at Ukukalama-ama, Fimie, in Port Harcourt city local government area, that has raised serious concerns regarding upsurge in cultism and criminality and circumstances surrounding the death of the victim.
“We understand that situations like this trigger emotions and concerns within our communities and it is of utmost importance that we respond with transparency and accountability.
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is committed to upholding professionalism, the rule of law and protection of the citizenry.
“Consequently, the State Commandant, Dr Dennis Lesor Reuben has directed the Intelligence and Investigation department, to swiftly initiate an internal investigation, to thoroughly examine the events leading to this regrettable loss of life.
“We are also working closely with relevant authorities to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
“The State Commandant Dr Dennis Lesor Reuben, therefore calls for calm and encourage the public to refrain from violent protest or actions that could escalate tensions.
“We assure you that our discreet investigation will address all aspects of the incident and will keep the public informed of the progress.
“Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. We reaffirm our commitment to justice, protection of lives and property as well as community safety.”
