The managing director of Coleman Wires and Cables Industries Limited, George Onafowokan has been recognized as an Honorary Fellow by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), for his contributions to the engineering sector.

In an interview following the announcement, Onafowokan expressed his pride in receiving such a prestigious honour, highlighting “his dedication to both the electrical and mechanical engineering fields. This recognition is a reflection of years of commitment to enriching the engineering landscape, driven by my own passion for the industry.”

Onafowokan’s engineering journey spans 24 years at Coleman, where he has cultivated extensive hands-on knowledge in basic and advanced engineering, particularly in electrical, electronics, and automation.

His leadership has significantly advanced the company’s technological capabilities, cementing its position as a leader in the cable manufacturing industry in Nigeria, West Africa, and across the continent.

Onafowokan stated that “the fundamental principles of engineering have greatly benefited not only myself but the entire company and the country as well.” He acknowledged that, in NSE’s 34-year history, fewer than 20 non-engineers have been granted similar recognition, underscoring the distinction of this award.

An advocate for recognising true merit, Onafowokan stressed that the accolade is not a superficial title, saying “I have turned down many awards in my life. Recognition should come from your peers and respected institutions, not be self-bestowed,” he stated.

Onafowokan explained that “the success of Coleman has always been about establishing a solid foundation before projecting an image. We pride ourselves on creating substance rather than empty claims,” emphasising the company’s commitment to integrity in its operations and its reputation within the engineering, oil and gas, and telecom sectors.

Onafowokan stated that the company remains dedicated to advancing engineering standards and promoting technological innovation within the industry.
