Bauchi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) to address the shortage of power supply in the state.
The state chairman of NUJ, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, made the call at the state congress meeting in Bauchi yesterday.
He urged security agencies to tackle security challenges in the state and urged the state government to give the necessary support to the media for effective service delivery.
Comrade Umar Sa’idu used the medium to call on resident doctors to suspend its warning strike to avoid putting the health condition of the people in danger.
The NUJ chairman advised religious leaders to always preach the gospel of peace for the overall development of the state and commended journalists for their support to the council.
The congress ratified the nomination of a seven member electoral committee for onward transmission to the national secretariat for approval to conduct a fresh election into offices of the State Working Committee.
The congress urged members of the union to continue to operate within the ambit of the NUJ constitution and code of ethics to avoid misinformation and ensure that they fact-check their stories to uphold their integrity which is instrumental to the pillars of democracy.
