Amba, who doubles as the deputy president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was presented with the award at the NUJ’s Press Freedom and Good Governance Awards on Saturday.

He was honoured with the Good Governance Award (Educational Planning and Leadership) during the event organised by the NUJ.

The award acknowledges Amba’s sterling contributions to Nigeria’s education sector through credible leadership and mobilising Nigeria’s teachers for effective service delivery.

According to NUJ national president, Dr Chris Isiguzo, the award was in recognition of Comrade Amba’s track records of invaluable contributions towards the growth and development of teachers’ welfare.

His sterling performance as the National President of NUT and Deputy President of the NLC has brought confidence and dynamism to the two very important organisations that are very pivotal to the development of our great Nation, Nigeria. His inclination to protect teachers’ rights in Nigeria as well as negotiate better working conditions for them and other workers remains unparalleled.”

While receiving the award, Comrade Amba thanked the NUJ for finding him worthy of the award. He commended journalists for their invaluable role in upholding democracy, promoting transparency, and empowering individuals to make informed decisions.

He appealed to Nigerians to remember and honour all journalists who have paid the supreme price while hunting for news and information.
