Comrade Henry Nwankwo has emerged president of Youth Partnership for Africa’s Development (YOUPAD).
Nwankwo, who was the Nigerian coordinator and leader of the West African block polled 102 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Coulibaly Hameed, who polled 74 votes in the election held in Accra, Ghana yesterday.
During the polls, 13 invalid votes were recorded.
Thanking those who supported his aspiration in his acceptance speech, Nwankwo pledged to uphold the core objective of YOUPAD which includes building the youth in leadership and entrepreneurship to provide Africa intellectually equipped and dynamic youths for leadership roles in Africa and the international arena.
He said, “Today’s conclusion of this process is a celebration, emphasising the founding principles of our organisation rather than competition. This vote has bolstered multilateralism, making every participant a winner.
“Strengthening YOUPAD signifies progress in grooming leaders for vital roles in peace, security, development and human rights for the betterment of our people and our shared home Africa.”
He outlined key goals, including addressing youth issues such as drug abuse, revitalising Pan-Africanism and fostering an African renaissance.
He expressed gratitude for the immense privilege and honor bestowed upon him to lead this esteemed organisation.
He also congratulated all the newly elected country and regional coordinators.
He emphasised that the mandate given by African youths was a call for reform, unity, Pan-Africanism, and an African renaissance, and he pledged to deliver on this instruction.
Reflecting on his experiences over the past four years, Nwankwo emphasised the importance of clear priorities for YOUPAD and unwavering focus on achieving them.
He highlighted the need to continue nurturing youth leadership and entrepreneurship to realise the collective dreams of building a better Africa.
