The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) on Thursday handed match suspensions to two players following a violent altercation after Wednesday’s Premiership fixture between Ekiti Queens and Pacesetter Queens in Ado Ekiti.

A statement signed by Samuel Ahmadu, Media Director, Nigeria Women Football League, explained that the Matchday 15 encounter, played on April 15, 2026, at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, ended 2-0 in favour of the home side, Ekiti Queens, but was overshadowed by controversy after Teslimot Balogun of Pacesetter Queens and Busari Suliyat of Ekiti Queens were involved in a post-match clash that triggered chaos.

According to official reports from match officials, the incident occurred immediately after the final whistle, with both players engaging in conduct deemed violent and unsporting.

Following a review of the referee’s report, the match commissioner’s findings, and video footage, the NWFL ruled that the actions of both players brought the game into disrepute.

Consequently, the NWFL imposed a two-match ban on each player, effective immediately from Matchday 16.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, reiterated the league’s zero-tolerance stance on violence and warned that any future incidents involving violent behaviour by players or officials could attract more severe sanctions, including indefinite suspension.

“Any act of violence has no place in our league and will be met with firm disciplinary action to protect the integrity of the game and the safety of all participants,” the NWFL COO said.
