Ebonyi State first lady, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru and the former Senate president, Anyim Pius Anyim have encouraged Nigerian women to continue breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, inspiring future generations and remaining resilient.
They commended women for their efforts in promoting the rights of women and girls and remaining the backbone of the nation’s economy.
In their separate statements to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration, they appealed to government and other agencies to create more opportunities for women and girls.
Mrs Nwifuru said, “Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience and achievements of every woman across our dear state. Women are the pillars of our homes, communities and society, and their contributions continue to shape the future of Ebonyi State and Nigeria as a whole.
“This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ serves as a powerful call for all of us to redouble our efforts in advancing gender equality, empowering women economically and ensuring that their voices are heard in all spheres of life. The time for change is now, to uplift, support and create more opportunities for women and girls.
“Over the years, Ebonyi State has recorded remarkable achievements in promoting the rights of women and girls, thanks to the unwavering support of Governor Francis Nwifuru, and the dedication to women-focused policies and programmes.”
On his part, Senator Anyim said, “Today, I celebrate the strength, resilience and brilliance of every woman and girl in Nigeria and across the world.
“You are the heartbeat of our homes, the backbone of our economy and the architects of our future. On this International Women’s Day, we do more than recognise your contributions. We commit to removing every barrier that holds you back.
“This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ is a call for bold and immediate change. It is not enough to acknowledge gender inequality; we must dismantle it. It is not enough to admire women’s achievements; we must create more opportunities. It is not enough to condemn gender-based violence; we must eradicate it.”
