Former chief of staff to ex-Imo State governor (Rochas Okorocha) and president of Ugwumba Leadership Center, Chief Uche Nwosu, has described President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of the disputed cybersecurity levy as a welcome development.

Nwosu, in an interview with newsmen said, “The cybercrime Levy lacks awareness and it is ill timed.”

He, therefore, called on the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to create more awareness on government policies so that Nigerians at the grassroots could be well informed about them before approval for implementation by the president.

Nwosu said, “With the hardship in the country, which the president inherited, it will be ill-timed to impose the cybersecurity levy on the people.

“Are you telling me that a woman who is selling groundnut in a rural area and has a small account in a bank, after selling N10,000 as profit, some certain amount of money will be withdrawn from her account. What does she know about cybersecurity?

“I would suggest that next time when such things come to Mr President, he should throw it to the public and see the public’s perception on it before approval,” he said.

Nwosu said in the event of the policy be reviewed; he advised the government to impose the levy on bigger industries and not the smaller businesses and the masses.

Similarly, he applauded the president’s innovative idea to switch government vehicles from petrol to gas powered vehicles in the country.

He said, “It is a gain for Nigerians, that the president has approved gas powered vehicles in the country. With these innovations, there will be no more cues at the filling stations, because there is an alternative to power vehicles which will grow the economy.”
