A former chief of staff to the Imo State government, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, has called for community policing to curb insecurity in the country.

Nwosu, an APC chieftain, said at a press yesterday in Abuja that in view of the constant killings in different parts of the country, the only strategy to curb insecurity is community policing.

He urged traditional rulers, youths, women and other stakeholders of communities to mount guards to check activities of bandits from the grassroots and report to the appropriate authorities for proper action.

He said, “The issue of insecurity should not be left for federal government alone to tackle, the states need to come together with the federal government to find a common solution. In doing this they must involve the traditional rulers, youths, transport unions and individuals at the grassroots, because these are the people that have direct link with the attacks, when you involve them they should be able to report back to the center on the daily happenings for proper checks of their communities and actions where necessary.”

Nwosu said he was in support of President Bola Tinubu as a southerner to complete eight  years in office, and anything else would be unfair to the people of the South, based on the agreement within the political parties on rotation of power.
