The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is mourning the tragic death of Chisom Nwankwo, a final-year student in the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was killed in a road accident within the campus.

Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, the university’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. He expressed deep sadness and regret over the student’s untimely demise.

Olarewaju described Nwankwo’s death as a “colossal loss” to the department, faculty, and the entire university community. He shared that the university management is deeply saddened by the incident and offered their condolences to the student’s family.

In light of this tragic event, the university management urged motorists and motorcyclists to be more mindful of traffic laws and reduce their speed within and outside the campus. Olarewaju emphasized that the university cannot afford to lose its students under any circumstances and urged everyone to prioritize safe driving practices.
