A Calabar High has fixed June 11, 2024, to rule on the interlocutory application by claimants in the renewed battle for the throne of the Obong of Calabar and Treaty King of Efik Kingdom.
The court headed by Justice Elias Abua adopted the interlocutory application from the claimants before adjourning for judgement.

In the suit No. HC/278/2023, the claimants who include Etubom Essien Ekpenyong Efiok, Etubom Okon Asuquo and Etubom Micah Archibong, prayed the court to restrain certain persons from harassing and intimidating the claimants.
The claimants also prayed the court to restrain the sitting Obong of Calabar to stop exercising his powers and stop parading himself as such.

The counsel to the claimants, Barr. Eric Ifere, said the orders were imperative as without them, the case would become a mere academic exercise, stressing that the court has a legal obligation to do so.
Among the defendants are Etubom Abasi Otu, Etubom Edem Offiong Effiwat, Edem Ita Essien Ededem, Cross River State government and the state’s attorney-general.
They asked the court to dismiss the application.

However, counsel to the Ist and 3rd respondents, Barr. Mark Tambe, said the application was improper and therefore prayed the court to dismiss it.
In his reaction, counsel to the 4th and 5th respondents, Barr. Ikonna, aligned with the submission of the counsel to the 1st and 3rd respondents.
