Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday flagged off the construction of the Cubana Millennium City in Asaba, marking the commencement of what is projected to become one of the most significant private-sector-led urban developments in the South-South.
The governor was represented at the ceremony by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.
The event, held along the Benin–Onitsha Expressway by Witchtech Junction, drew senior government officials, traditional rulers, investors, and business leaders from across the country.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Onyeme commended the Cubana Group for investing in Delta State and aligning its project with the administration’s MORE Agenda, which focuses on modernization, infrastructure expansion, and job creation.
“This project is not just another development; it is a bold statement about the future of Asaba,” the deputy governor said. “Cubana Millennium City will stimulate economic growth, attract investors, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for our people.”
Chairman of the Cubana Group, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, thanked the state government for its support and expressed confidence that the project would redefine urban living in Asaba. He said the development would include premium residential units, hospitality facilities, entertainment spaces, parks, and essential commercial infrastructure.
“Our vision is to build a city within a city—safer, smarter, more connected, and reflective of the aspirations of modern Nigerians,” he noted.
Construction activities are expected to commence immediately following the groundbreaking, with the project envisioned as a self-sustaining ecosystem that blends luxury, culture, entertainment, and community living.
Traditional leaders offered prayers and blessings before the symbolic excavation and guided tour of the site by the project management team.
