The triumph of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in 38 party and post election cases in the 2023 governorshp election have been described as divine.
The Asiwaju Yoruba community in Ughelli metropolis of Delta state, Prince Victor Olatunde stated this on Saturday in Asaba.
Olatunde noted this while discussing the tenures of the local government chairmen which ends on March 8, 2024 and preparations ahead council elections in the state.
He noted that the plethora of criminal lawsuits pressed against the governor could have swept him off his feet if not for the grace of God and the strength of character he exhibited throughout his ordeals.
Olatunde also posited that the nation’s judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court in all recent judgments sent strong signals to Nigerians that it can never be business as usual.
The community leader recalled that opposition elements fought the governor from all angles and pressed all manners of charges against him despite winning 21 out of 25 local governments with a wide margin in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state.
“The lawsuits were to remove him as governor, but all their efforts did not work, making him the most fortunate. In all the travails of Governor Oborevwori, God was with him, and that if God exalts a man, no mere mortal can bring him down.
“All the 38 criminal litigations across courts of competent jurisdictions ended in favour of the governor and his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.
“They divinely and miraculously survived the lawsuits to stand tall and remained unbeatable as affirmed by the Apex Court,” Olatunde said.
On the local government elections, he advised that since the governor has promised that the election would take place immediately, all contestants, whether incumbent or not, politicians and all stakeholders should work towards its success.
While assuring that the governor’s genuine intentions to serve the people cannot be faulted, he said the state remains one united family despite being populated by people of diverse ethnic groups.
He lauded Governor Oborevworifor his commitment towards the completion of the projects initiated by the immediate past administration.
