Yamaabana, in a suit filed at the High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, accused the police of shooting at Ogoni youths who were allegedly protesting against corruption in HYPREP.

He demanded for N500 million as aggravated and exemplary damages against the defendants.

Joined in the suit were the commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olatunji Disu and former HYPREP project coordinator, Prof Stephen Shekwolo.

The plaintiff, in suit number: FHC/PH/FHR/388/2023, had demanded for an order for the enforcement of his human rights.

In a court document obtained by LEADERSHIP Weekend, the claimant demanded a declaration that the harassment and manhandling of himself and OYF members is illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional and a gross violation of his rights.

He also sought for a declaration that the alleged indiscriminate firing of gunshots in a commando style and destruction of placards carried by him and other OYF prominent members during a peaceful protest at the HYPREP office in Port Harcourt, was a breach of his rights and that of others.
