The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday officially unveiled Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adeola, popularly known as “YAYI,” presented Adegunwa-Balogun to party leaders and stakeholders at an event held at the APC State Secretariat along Abiola Way, Abeokuta.
The event was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun, the APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, former Senator Gbenga Kaka, Senator Akin Odunsi, and other prominent party leaders.
Adeola described his running mate as a “disciplined, upright and experienced professional,” adding that she would work with him to consolidate on the achievements of the outgoing administration and advance the development of the state.
He said Adegunwa-Balogun was selected after wide consultations with stakeholders across the state, describing the choice as strategic and inclusive.
The unveiling comes about two months after Senator Adeola emerged as the APC governorship candidate through a consensus arrangement, later ratified in a direct primary conducted across the state’s 236 wards.
During the event, Governor Abiodun moved a motion for the formal adoption of Adegunwa-Balogun as the deputy governorship candidate, which was unanimously approved through a voice vote by party stakeholders.
Adegunwa-Balogun, who hails from Ososa in Ogun East Senatorial District and is the daughter of industrialist and philanthropist Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abiodun, Senator Adeola, and party leaders for the opportunity to serve on the joint ticket.
Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, described the unveiling as a key step in completing the party’s governorship process, noting that the selection of the deputy candidate marked the final stage of internal party preparations.
He commended Governor Abiodun for what he described as a peaceful and well-managed primary process across the state, saying it reflected unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
