Ogun State government says it has been augmenting the budgets of its 20 local government areas (LGAs) with   N532 million on monthly basis as part of the strategies towards ensuring a smooth governance at the grassroots.

This came on the heels of the state government’s acknowledgement off over N3. 8 billion as allocation due to the state for March, 2023 from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC).

The state’s commissioner for finance, Dapo Okubadejo made the disclosure in a paper he presented yesterday during the state’s Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting for t April 2023.

Earlier, the state’s commissioner for local governments and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat,  told the JAAC that Ogun received N3, 812, 189, 793: 89 as its share for the month of March 2023 from FAAC.

At the JAAC meeting held at the Oba’s Conference Hall of the State Secretariat Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital, Hamzat said the FAAC’s sum included the statutory shares, Value Added Tax (VAT), as well as the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL).

He said the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had over the years ensured that the JAAC meetings were held on a monthly basis to ensure transparency in the disbursement of the federal allocation to the 20 councils.

In his  presentation, Okubadejo, who is also the chief economic adviser to the governor, said Ogun would be needing N4, 344, 292, 096:14 to meet its first-line charges, which included primary school teachers’ salaries, local government staff salaries, pensions, traditional councils, and statutory payment to the Local Government Service Commission.
