FAS Comprehensive College, Ogun State, has emerged as the winner of the 2026 CWay World Water Day Essay Competition, alongside two other secondary schools.
The contest, held in Lagos, was part of activities marking World Water Day, observed globally on March 22, with this year’s theme, “Water and Gender”, and attracted entries from secondary school students across Lagos and Ogun States, designed to provoke critical thinking among young Nigerians.
From hundreds of entries received, six finalists were selected for the grand finale. They included Melody Iboma (Solid Ultimate Academy, Lagos), Fadare Oluwaseunfunmi (FAS Comprehensive College, Ogun), Oluremi Temidayo Mercy (Coriander Secondary School, Lagos), Emeka Vanessa Victory (Mighty Pillars School, Lagos), Richard Oghagaoghene Eterigbo (St Margaret Comprehensive College, Lagos), and Oniga Ayomikun (Dee Royale Montessori School, Lagos).
At the end of the competition, Fadare Oluwaseunfunmi of FAS Comprehensive College took first place, receiving a cash prize of N300,000 and a CWAY water dispenser. Emeka Victory of Mighty Pillars School came second with N200,000 and 25 packs of CWAY bottled water, while Oluremi Temidayo Mercy of Coriander Secondary School placed third with N100,000 and 20 packs of bottled water.
The remaining finalists, Richard Oghagaoghene Eterigbo, Melody Iboma, and Oniga Ayomikun, were recognised with consolation cash prizes and packs of CWAY Water, underscoring the company’s commitment to rewarding excellence and participation alike.
Speaking at the event, Group Marketing Head, CWAY Water, Samuel Akinrimisi, emphasised that the company’s involvement in World Water Day goes beyond symbolic participation. According to him, the annual commemoration represents a deliberate effort by the brand to invest in meaningful conversations and initiatives that address real societal challenges.
He noted that water remains central to life and development, stressing that access to safe drinking water is a fundamental right that cuts across gender lines.
He explained that while the global theme draws attention to the disproportionate burden borne by women and girls, CWAY’s position is rooted in shared responsibility and collective action.
Reinforcing this position, Deputy General Manager for Sales Operations, Charles Ojo, pointed to CWAY Water’s extensive operational footprint as evidence of its commitment to bridging the gap between advocacy and action.
