All former Delta State governors and the incumbent governor Ifeanyi Okowa, yesterday stayed away from the inauguration of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign committee.
The former PDP governors who were absent are Chief James Ibori and Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, just as Senator James Manager (Delta South), shunned the venue.
Their absence may not be unconnected with the outcome of the party’s governorship primaries that produced Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the candidate of the party in the state.
Governor Okowa, in his speech, solicited for massive votes from the state considering the fact that he is the vice presidential candidate and should deliver votes for the party at the state and national levels.
“The vice presidential candidate is from Delta State. We must ensure all votes in Delta is for PDP at all levels. Special votes must come from Delta. As you go for campaigns, convince them to vote for PDP. Drive your campaign from the unit and ward levels,” he said.
While saying he may not be at every campaign venue because of his national engagements, “Where the governorship candidate cannot be, his deputy and other leaders will be there. To cover all the wards in the state, all political appointees should go back to their wards to justify their positions. You cannot sit in Asaba and deliver,” Okowa pleaded.
Candidate of the party, Oborevwori, pledged to deploy everything at his disposal to ensure that the hopes and aspirations of all party members are realised.
