Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the immediate suspension of the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Omorodion Ignatius Ikponmwosa, and the State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (LPRES) Project, Mrs. Ikpikhumi Betsy Aghaku, over what the state government described as an official infraction.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor.

According to the statement, the affected officials have been directed to hand over all official documents, records and other government property relating to the LPRES Project to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock Development, with immediate effect.

The government also directed both officials to report to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for a comprehensive debriefing on the LPRES Project.

The statement, however, did not disclose the nature of the alleged official infraction that led to the suspension.

Speaking on the development, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, said the action underscored the Okpebholo administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency and strict adherence to due process in the management of public offices and government programmes.

“The suspension takes immediate effect. The affected officials are to hand over all official documents, records and government property relating to the LPRES Project to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock Development,” Ikhilor said.

He added, “They are also required to report to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for a comprehensive debriefing on the LPRES Project. The government remains committed to ensuring accountability, transparency and discipline in the conduct of public service.”
