Oliseh Backs Super Eagles Coach Chelle Despite World Cup Heartbreak

Sunday Oliseh has expressed his admiration for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle.

Chelle failed in his bid to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to Democratic Republic of Congo in the final of the African playoffs.

It was the Super Eagles’ first defeat under the Malian.

Despite the criticism that has trailed the team’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, Oliseh has thrown his weight behind the gaffer.

“I am one of those, in reality, was totally unhappy when he was appointed, but I must be honest with you that so far, he has won me over,” the former midfielder said on his podcast.

“I feel like the man has really given it a lot, he’s done a lot, and he’s picked up some points, better than any of the two people that preceded him.”
