The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, has halted the planned demolition of about 200 houses at Isokan Estate Extension, Alao Akala, Elebu area in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The monarch, a former governor, gave the order following a series of meetings with the affected residents.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by his media aide, Adeola Oloko. The Olubadan said a certain individual identified as Mogaji Olopade Taofeek Abiola, also known as Mogaji Oloyin, claimed to hold a court judgement from the Ibadan High Court in his favour to reclaim the land within the community. It was this alleged judgement that prompted several landlords and landladies to seek the traditional ruler’s intervention.
After the consultations, the Olubadan directed that no house in the area should be demolished. He instructed landlords whose house rooftops had already been removed to restore them. He also warned land grabbers to stay away from the area, adding that keeping the structures intact would help clarify who is trespassing on whose land and determine the next line of action.
