Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has described the role of women as central to the development and future of Nigeria, stressing that their active participation can shape governance for the betterment of the country.
Mrs Tinubu said this during the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally 2026 themed: “The Power of 10 Million,” held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday which attracted thousands of women from states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the First Lady, women make up over half of the population, adding that their immense contributions to national development have uniquely positioned them to influence change, even as she admonished them to take their place in shaping political and economic outcomes.
She pointed out that empowering women will make more creative and resilient, which will strengthen families, communities and the nation at large.
The former federal lawmaker also commended the women for their patience and resilience even as she assured them that the economic reforms of the Tinubu government will soon yield dividends. She also pledged to present the women’s charter at the rally to President Bola Tinubu, adding that it the evidence of their collective aspirations.
Earlier, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, in her remarks said the event was historic and an enormous efforts to prioritize issues affecting.
“What a time to be a Nigerian woman,” she said, stressing that the movement represents a unified front cutting across sectors and social groups.
According to her, the charter unveiled at the rally is not just a document, but “a social contract, a policy promise and a political arrangement” that defines women’s place in Nigeria’s future. She urged women to harness their voting strength, noting that their electoral power remains a critical tool for influencing leadership and governance.
Also speaking, APC deputy national women leader and chair of the organising committee, Zainab Ibrahim, said the rally symbolised the mobilisation of millions of voices demanding inclusion. “We represent 10 million voices calling for political, economic and educational inclusion,” she said.
