As the local government election in Edo State draws near, an aspirant for the Ovia South West local government area, Comrade Kevin Omoruyi has emphasised the need for effective governance at the grassroots level.

Omoruyi said he believes that governance at the local government level must be felt as it is the closest to the people.

In a chat with newsmen, Omoruyi expressed his ambition to occupy the chairmanship position of Ovia South West, citing his commitment to fast-tracking grassroots development in his locality.

He noted that Ovia South West is endowed with agricultural potential that requires the right leadership to harness for the benefit of the people and the state.

The Ovia grassroots youth mobiliser also lauded the developmental trajectory of Governor Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, saying they have set the state on the path of progress after many years of bad governance.

Omoruyi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that if given the party’s ticket and eventually winning the chairmanship seat, his administration would focus on people-oriented programmes.

The young entrepreneur outlined his seven-point agenda which includes rehabilitation and grading of rural roads to link wards, Installation of solar power, education and youth empowerment, renovation of dilapidated primary and secondary schools, agricultural and local economy development as well as women and grassroots empowerment aimed at improving the well-being of the people.

He emphasised that his mission is to improve the overall well-being of the people through purposeful and value-driven programmes and projects.

“I understand the yearnings of our people and I deem it fit to come out and offer myself for service to my people and contribute my quota.

“My blueprint is to bring governance closer to the people because politics is about the grassroots, and to make the people understand that governance is about them,” he said.
