Residents of Odigbo Local Government Area in Ondo State are gripped by fear over the discovery of three headless bodies floating in a river along the Odigbo-Ore Old Road in the state.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the residents stumbled upon the decomposing bodies floating in the river, with some lodged against the riverbanks on Sunday
A source hinted that the victims were brutally murdered and dumped in the river by suspected kidnappers.
Also, an Immediate past youth leader of the community who identified himself as Shileola said, “I was shocked when I first heard about it over the phone. I rushed to the scene, hoping to identify the victims through their clothing or any other means, but all efforts proved abortive.”
While saying that the victims might have been killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped in the river, Shileola noted that no reports of missing persons have been recorded in the area so far.
He, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious in the wake of the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of their death remains unknown.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said the police had recovered the three bodies.
Ayanlade said, “I can confirm to you that some three bodies were recovered at the river in Odigbo. Immediately, it was reported to the Ore Division. The DPO of that division moved a detective to the scene where the three bodies were recovered.
“However, the DPO, upon recovering the body, was taken to the morgue at General Hospital.
The DPO summoned the community leaders and all interest groups to ensure the identification of the body.
“Also directing anybody with information to the body to go there and check. But ever since then, we have not received any; nobody has been able to identify any of the bodies.
“And it is believed that those bodies were brought there and dumped at that site by some unknown men. So we think that that did not happen in those days.
“The area where it happened bordered many states, both Ogun and Edo States. So, we believe the body is not from the state. However, it was dumped in that river.”
