‎The Ondo State Government has deepened its commitment to improving the education sector through strengthened data management, describing education as a critical driver of growth and development.
‎
‎As part of the initiative, the government has commenced training of key stakeholders on the Basic Education Management Information System (BEMIS), a digital platform designed to collect, manage and analyse data across basic education schools.
‎
‎This was disclosed by the state commissioner for education, science and technology, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, during a sensitisation programme on Basic Education Data Entry for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 academic sessions on the BEMIS platform.
‎
‎The programme which was held in Akure, the state capital, brought together education administrators, data officers and policymakers to enhance data collection and management across the state.
‎
‎Represented by the Director of Inspectorate and Quality Assurance, Prince Olu Obajulaye, the commissioner said education remains a vital tool for shaping values, knowledge and opportunities necessary for societal advancement.
‎
‎He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality basic education, stressing that education forms the foundation for a prosperous future.
‎
‎Ajibefun emphasised the importance of maintaining comprehensive and reliable data on learners in both public and private schools, noting that accurate information is essential for effective planning, policy formulation and continuous improvement of the system.
‎
‎“BEMIS is more than a digital platform; it is a powerful tool that allows us to track enrolment, monitor teacher performance, manage school resources, and ensure that every child receives the quality education they deserve. Accurate data will drive better planning and stronger outcomes across our schools,” he said.
‎
‎In his welcome address, the chairman of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Victor Olabimtan, said the government would sustain efforts to strengthen data management in the basic education sector through BEMIS.
‎
‎Represented by the Board’s Full-Time Member I, Princess Olufunmilayo Ademulegun-Brown, the chairman commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his consistent support for the education sector.
‎
‎He stressed that accurate statistics and reliable data remain fundamental to effective planning, policy formulation and improved learning outcomes across the education system.
‎
‎The SUBEB chairman urged stakeholders to take the BEMIS data entry exercise seriously, ensuring proper documentation and active collaboration throughout the process, adding that improved cooperation would boost education delivery in the state.
