A former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan to retain his legacy by resisting pressure to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Oshiomhole, who stated this on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said that only Jonathan’s enemies wanted him to throw his hat in the ring.

He, however, said that if he chose to contest, the former president would be defeated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Jonathan, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost the 2015 presidential election to former President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.

“President Buhari is no more. He wasn’t fair for the statement that Jonathan made. I mean, I have a lot of respect for him. We defeated him before when PDP was truly PDP. Let’s define the word “support.” Everybody has support.

Don’t you have support? All it takes is for me to do a TV face cam for you and get one or two people to speak.

“If a man had a PDP at his best, at his peak, and he was defeated,

I think only his enemies will push him to go into the race. I think he has managed to demonstrate that out of power, you can be relieved and be at peace.”

“If I were able to advise him, I would say, sir, maintain this status. You govern for eight years. You don’t have to go back for nine years,” Oshimhole said.
