Paul Onuachu delivered a match-winning performance, netting both goals as Trabzonspor secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Konyaspor in the Turkish Cup final on Friday night.The triumph marked the 10th time in the club’s history that Trabzonspor have lifted the coveted trophy.
Onuachu, who shared the title of top scorer in the 2025/26 Turkish Super Lig season, opened the scoring for the Black Sea Storm in the 18th minute.
The Nigerian striker capitalized on a precise assist from right-back Wagne Pina to put his side ahead early in the contest.
Konyaspor responded after the interval, with Democratic Republic of Congo forward Jackson Muleka leveling the score just five minutes into the second half.
The equaliser breathed new life into the final, setting up a tense remainder of the match.
Konyaspor had a golden opportunity to take their first lead of the game just before the hour mark. However, Enis Bardhi failed to convert from the penalty spot, sending his effort wide and keeping Trabzonspor on level terms.
With 11 minutes remaining in regulation time, Onuachu stepped up to the spot after a foul inside the box. The Nigerian international kept his composure and buried the penalty, securing his second goal of the night and the winning margin for Trabzonspor.
Adding to the Nigerian influence in the match, Onuachu’s international teammate Chibuike Nwaiwu also featured for Trabzonspor, contributing to the side’s resilient defensive and midfield efforts throughout the final.
