The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has called for intensive investment in education by stakeholders, with special reference to the well-to-do in society.
Apparently happy at the performance of students from public schools at the quiz and debate competitions organised by Victor Badejo Foundation as part of his 10th coronation anniversary, the monarch lauded the Foundation for its commitment to the well-being of the less privileged.
“What we have here today has further called for the government’s prompt attention to the standard of education in our public schools. I am surprised that most of the finalists here are students from public primary and secondary schools.
“Despite the challenges of life and the obvious lack of amenities in some of these schools, the students still won medals and captured hearts with unbelievable excellent performance.’’
While Saint John’s Primary School, Oke Atan, Ile-Ife, won the keenly contested quiz competition, Oluorogbo Grammar School, Ile-Ife, won the debate competition, and they were rewarded with cash prizes, educational instructional materials, and other prizes.
In his goodwill message, the sponsor, Victor Badejo, explained that he decided to organise the event to celebrate the Ooni, whom he described as a mentor, father and unequalled leader.
While commending the monarch on his commitment to youth development, Badejo said there was no gift he could offer Ooni Ogunwusi other than to give back to the society that has made him on the occasion of the 10th coronation anniversary of the monarch.
