Ahead of the Yuletide celebration and the 2023 general elections, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) Reform has vowed to secure the South West from security challenges during, after and beyond the election.

The group’s president, Ambassador Francis Oludare Adesope who lamented that the unnecessary invasion, kidnapping, killing, robbery and raping still continue, charged Nigerians to be alert and be ever ready to defend themselves against ant attack.

According to him, there is no law that says people should not defend themselves against any attack.

He said members of the organisation would continue to complement the efforts of the law enforcement agents in ensuring that the entire South West is crime-free.

“We are all aware of the fact that our population out -numbered of all the security agents put together and this makes us closer to the people.

“We have our zones which are the lowest unit of the organisation in all the nooks and crannies of the South West states and we operate 24 hours.

“As such, as the Yuletide and election are approaching, let us keep our ears to the ground, open our eyes widely and report any suspicious move immediately”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Right Concern ( MURIC) has called on the South West governors to integrate the OPC into the Amotekun Corps for effective collaboration against security challenges.

The group’s director, Professor Ishaq Akintola argued that it was the OPC that saved the South West from the constant attacks of armed robbers.

According to him, they boldly confronted armed criminals and they were able to subdue them particularly between 1985 and 2005.

“They were not paid for their services and many members of OPC died while confronting hoodlums.

“Unfortunately, the various governments of the South West forgot the OPC when they established an official security outfit called Amotekun. This is unfair”, Akintola said.
