Osun 2026: Akin Ogunbiyi Joins Governorship Race

An Osun-born politician, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, has declared his interest to contest for governorship on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
The Ile-Ogbo, Ayedire, Osun West-born politician who made his ambition known to the leadership of the party at the party secretariat on Thursday, promised to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State with ease if granted the opportunity to rule the state.

He emphasised the need to ensure a second term in office for President Bola Tinubu and called on thousands of his supporters that throng the event to cooperate with whosoever emerged as the candidate of the party in the August, 2026 election.

Ogunbiyi who dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state years back insisted that the major task ahead of the party is to exit the Ademola Adeleke led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government out of Bola Ige House seat of Osun State government.

At the event where no fewer than 1,100 politicians drawn from various political parties across Osun State dumped their parties to join the APC, Ogunbiyi charged his supporters to be loyal to the party.

The defectors were received by stalwarts of APC at the national level, elders of the party at the state level and members of the state executive council shortly after Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi declared his interest for the governorship race in the state on the platform of APC.

Earlier, the chairman of the party in the state, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal while receiving the aspirant at the party secretariat, stressed the need for all governorship aspirants to go and work assiduously towards the victory of the party at the polls.

He urged aspirants to play the game according to the rule, adding that all aspirants would be granted a level playing ground to compete.
