The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed disapproval of a recent statement credited to a former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, regarding the party.
In a recent radio interview, Oyinlola was reported to have referred to the NNPP as a Kano party when expressing his opinion on the party Governor Ademola Adeleke could use to vie for a second term in office, following the crisis bedevilling the Peoples Democratic Party.
However, in a swift reaction, Osun NNPP chairman, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, said Oyinlola goofed on the statement, noting that although Kano State is the party’s pride, it had been in existence before it secured Kano State.
Odeyemi, while speaking with LEADERSHIP in Osogbo, stressed that the party won outrightly in 2023 in Kano state based on citizens’ wishes and can never be compared to Oyinlola’s preferred party, which people have not tested with power.
He noted that Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has been a good ambassador for the NNPP, and people can easily see what the party has in store for the masses of this nation.
He posited that if Governor Ademola Adeleke wishes to contest on the NNPP platform, he would be welcomed wholeheartedly, adding that any aspirant who is confident in their abilities can take advantage of the open window offered by NNPP.
Odeyemi expressed his confidence in the party’s ability to take over many states in the 2027 general elections, citing the numerous achievements the Kano state governor is currently attaining.
