Osun 2026: Oyinlola, Akinbade, Other PDP Leaders Back Oyebamiji

With less than five days to Osun State governorship election, former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and former Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye Ponle, and other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the state, have declared support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

The governorship election is this weekend.

Oyinlola, who led the PDP stalwarts, including former Secretary to Osun State government, Alhaji Fatai Akinade Akinbade, former Deputy National Chairman, PDP, South West, Tajudeen Oladiipo, former Minister for Police Affairs, Adesiyan and others along their supporters pledged their solidarity to Oyebamiji.

Oyinlola, who spoke on behalf of the PDP leaders, said while they are not leaving their party, they resolved to identify and support the APC candidate for the sake of inclusiveness.

The former governor said he, alongside others, worked hard to install the current administration in the state only to realise afterwards that the administration lacked inclusiveness.

He urged the Osun electorate to vote massively for Oyebamiji for good governance and accountability.

“We don’t want a government of exclusion, we want a government where every Osun indigene can say ‘ This government belongs to me.’

“We call on well meaning people of Osun State to join us in this new direction, Our responsibility as leader is to make decisions that will protect the future of our people,” Oyinlola said.

In his response, Oyebamiji, who appreciated the leaders for their support, promised to establish an inclusive government.

The APC candidate also assured that he would run a government that carries all stakeholders along.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, has regained freedom from the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force custody.

Adejoorin was arrested in Ilesa on Saturday and detained following sporadic shootings that left four people injured during a street rally by the APC in the Isokun area of the community.

The police, on Saturday, said Adejoorin was arrested in connection with the incident, adding that the commissioner was arrested at the scene of the incident.

The APC and Accord Party in Osun State traded blame over the disruption of the rally and the attendant shootings.

The spokesperson of Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, had accused the APC of being the brain behind the shootings, while the Director of Media, AMBO Campaign Organisation, Remi Omowaye said the perpetrators were men of the Amotekun security outfit in the service of the Accord Party.

Olajengbesi had appealed to the Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu to direct Osun State Police Command to release all Accord members in police custody including Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin.

The Ikinyinwa-Ijesa community home town of the commissioner was agog on Sunday when the release of the commissioner filtered in.

A resident of the community, Mr Jude Arowolo, expressed gratitude over the commissioner’s release.
