The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 15th August governorship election in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has pledged his party’s commitment to support and cooperate with all security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities before, during and after the election.

He expressed his commitment when he received a two-man delegation from the British High Commission at his campaign office in Osogbo, including Adewale Adebayo, a senior political advisor to the commission, and Mathew Ayibaku, a senior government advisor.

Oyebamiji, who noted that peace and security remain indispensable to the democratic process, however, expressed his dissatisfaction with the manner in which his main opposition party, the Accord Party, was handling security issues in the state.

He described recent media reports that foreign missions, including the British High Commission, should deny him and some notable members of his party entry visas to foreign countries on account of fueling political violence as a joke of the century, adding that the report to that effect was entirely unfounded.

While expressing his party’s confidence in the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible, free, fair and peaceful governorship election on 15 August 2026, he appealed to the Commission to continue to provide a level playing field for all political parties by allowing the electorate to determine the outcome of the election freely.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for their professionalism and restraint in the face of provocation and misinformation regarding the Osun issue.

The candidate also commended the British High Commission for its longstanding role in maintaining relations between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, adding that, over the years, the bilateral relationship between the Two Countries has remained mutually beneficial.
