Former Osun State governor and ex-Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, has delivered his polling unit in Ila Local Government Area for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in today’s governorship election in the state.

The APC polled 181 votes at the polling unit, located at Ita Atewogbade II, Isedo II Registration Area, where Akande cast his ballot earlier in the day, defeating the Accord Party, which secured 121 votes.

The result gives the APC a 60-vote margin over Accord, with the APC taking about 59.3 per cent of the 305 valid votes cast at the unit.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored one vote, while the Action Democratic Party (ADP) secured two votes.

A total of 11 ballots were rejected after voters’ thumbprints crossed the designated lines on the ballot papers.

The polling unit has 668 registered voters, while 316 ballots were accounted for, including the rejected votes, putting the voter turnout at approximately 47.3 per cent.

The result is significant in Ila, where the election is being closely watched because of the political realignments that have reshaped the contest, particularly the movement of Governor Ademola Adeleke and a large section of his former PDP structure to the Accord Party.

Akande’s polling unit result, therefore gives the APC an early local advantage over Accord Party in the immediate political territory of one of the state’s influential political figures.

With 181 votes to Accord Party’s 121, the APC has secured a clear lead at the unit, while the 11 rejected ballots underscore the number of votes lost to ballot-marking errors during the exercise.
