A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to prevent those allegedly planning to cause trouble over last week ruling of a Court of Appeal, Akure Division, on the 2022 local government elections conducted in the state.

Oyintiloye made the plea on Sunday in Osogbo through a statement to LEADERSHIP, saying the ruling delivered by the court on Friday had started generating tension across the state.

According to him, while the Court of Appeal in its wisdom struck out a request by APC to relist its appeal against the 2022 Federal High Court that nullified the local government elections, the appellate court did not nullify the judgement delivered on February 10, 2025, which reinstated the party’s chairmen and councillors.

The former lawmaker cautioned that the misinterpretation attributed to the ruling by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led government in the state may result into crisis across the 30 local government areas, if not quickly checked.

He faulted the state government for claiming to have the control of the local government areas and the planned takeover of the secretariats on Monday, June, 16, 2025.

Oyintiloye warned that the crisis was obvious, maintaining that the APC chairmen and councilors in those LGAs would resist any invasion of the secretariats.

He added that only the intervention of Tinubu can avert the feared crisis by ordering deployment of more security agencies to the state.

The former lawmaker said the loss of lives during similar crisis on February 17, was still fresh in the minds of the residents and that such should not be allowed to happen again.

LEADERSHIP recalls that the appellate court had on Friday dismissed an application by the APC seeking to relist an earlier appeal that had been struck out on January 13 for lack of diligent prosecution.

Justice Peter Obiorah held that relisting the appeal by the APC could cause judicial confusion, insisting that the application lacked merit.

The case originated from a suit filed by the All Peoples Party (APP) against the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission at the Federal High Court, challenging the legality of the October 15, 2022 LG election with only APC candidates participating.

The APC, which later joined the matter at the Federal High Court, had appealed the judgement after the lower court nullified the election.

However, the appeal was struck out earlier this year for failure to pursue it diligently.
