The mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Eleanya Kalu Ujuu, has said his administration’s development claims are visible and verifiable.
Ujuu spoke to LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, the state capital, as the state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) denied that the state government tampered with the council’s allocations.
He urged those making the unfounded allegations to stop feeding the public with lies and propaganda to tarnish the image and vision of Governor Alex Otti for the state.
According to the mayor, they (critics) are free to conduct independent investigations and verify the projects, beginning at the council headquarters in Ebem Ohafia if they are in doubt of the claim.
The chairman of ALGON chapter in the council, Chinedum Ekeke, had while addressing the media on the allegation, blamed the opposition for being behind the insinuation to destroy the reputation of the governor.
Ekeke, the chairman of Isuikwuato local government area, informed the media that the federal government allocates funds to both states and local governments.
“And since we took over, funds have not been coming to local governments from the federal government. So, you can’t say there’s a hijack. There’s no such thing as that”
“The local governments are funded from the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) account because the funds go there. The funds don’t come to the local government directly.
“And as I said, the federal government is probably trying to look for a way to handle that. But as it stands, the local governments are properly funded,” he maintained.
