Isaac Fayose has raised an alarm over the poor salaries paid to Nigerian soldiers, claiming that their low pay is affecting the country’s security.
In a video shared online, Fayose compared the earnings of Nigerian security agents with those of their counterparts in South Africa. He claimed that while South African soldiers earn about ₦2 million every month, many Nigerian soldiers earn roughly the same amount in a whole year.
He described the situation as “frustrating” for those on the frontlines. According to him, the money Nigerian soldiers receive is not a “living wage” and cannot cover their basic needs in the current economy.
Fayose urged the government to look into the welfare of security personnel. He argued that it is difficult to expect total commitment from hungry, poorly paid officers risking their lives to protect the nation.
