As the 2027 general election draws near, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter, has said its ticket will no longer be all-comers’ affairs.
The chairman, Amah Abraham, stated this to LEADERSHIP Friday in Umuahia, the state capital, after some PDP members of the state House of Assembly defected to the Labour Party.
“Our tickets will now be keenly contested. It will no longer be business as usual. Imposition of candidates has become a thing of the past in PDP,” he asserted.
According to him, aspirants for the PDP ticket would not only go for a free, fair, and transparent primary but would also be subjected to thorough investigations into their past.
“PDP will no longer be a goldmine for aspirants who have either failed in other parties or are ever ready to jump ship at the slightest appearance of storm,” he emphasised.
He hoped that despite the exit of those who “had constituted stumbling blocks” to the PDP in the state, the PDP would remain “a strong political force in the state.”
“By the grace of God, after having learnt our lessons the hard way and effected the necessary corrections, I am convinced that in 2027 we will return to power,” he added.
Therefore, he appealed to the members to remain determined and focused on solidifying the PDP grassroots base and “fishing for new members because our doors are open.”
